UIL Water Polo at Anderson

We have both Men's and Women's teams. Players from all grade levels at Anderson High School practice together and play as gender-specific teams in competitions. Water polo season is Fall and practices begin in late July. In 2023, both teams advanced out of district play, with the Men's Team making it to the Regional Semi-Finals. The team is led by Coach Eric Swanson.

FAQs:

NO. While water polo IS a swimming sport, players do not need to have current or prior competitive swim team experience to play.

YES. Most of our athletes have played other sports! Our season is August through early October, so it aligns with many sports' off seasons. Some of our former and current players have athletic backgrounds in basketball, wrestling, football, soccer, and (of course) swimming. Please let all the coaches know if you have a conflict with any portion of the calendar.

YES. It's a fast growing sport, but many people in Texas have never seen it played. You will not be alone in being a newbie! Our coaches can't teach you *how* to swim, but they can teach you how to swim better, how to do that crazy eggbeater kick, and all the fundamentals of the game.

ABSOLUTELY YES. Unlike most sports, we do not expect our players to arrive in high school with water polo experience. We welcome students from all grade levels and all ability levels.

LOTS! Once you fall in love with the sport (and most players do, because it's FUN), you can take it as far as you would like.
